Editorial Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2025

Service Canada Today is committed to independent, accurate, and fair journalism. This editorial policy describes the standards and practices that govern our reporting and publishing decisions.

Independence

Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial interests. Advertisers have no influence over what we cover, how we cover it, or what conclusions our reporters reach. Our journalists and editors are not affiliated with any political party, advocacy organisation, or commercial interest that could compromise their independence.

Accuracy and Verification

We verify information before publishing. We seek comment from all parties named or affected by our reporting. When we cannot verify a claim, we either do not publish it or we clearly indicate that it has not been independently verified. We do not publish rumour as fact.

Sources

We identify our sources wherever possible. We grant anonymity only when a source has a genuine and reasonable fear of retaliation and the information is clearly in the public interest. We do not use anonymous sources for opinion or commentary, and we do not grant anonymity simply because a source prefers not to be named.

Corrections

When we make errors, we correct them promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted clearly on the affected article, including the nature of the error and the corrected information. We do not silently alter published articles. To report an error, contact [email protected].

Opinion and Analysis

Opinion and analysis pieces are clearly labelled as such. They represent the views of the named author, not the publication. We publish a range of perspectives and do not require opinion contributors to share our editorial views.

Conflicts of Interest

Journalists and editors disclose any personal, financial, or professional interests that could create a conflict of interest with their coverage. Where a conflict cannot be adequately managed, the journalist is reassigned.

Advertising and Sponsored Content

Advertising is clearly distinguished from editorial content. We do not publish sponsored content or native advertising that could be mistaken for independent journalism. Advertisers have no say in our editorial decisions.
